BARGAIN BONANZA OF CLASSROOM MATERIALS

BARGAIN BONANZA OF CLASSROOM MATERIALS

The Perryman Sale features very generous discounts on educational materials in social studies, English, science, and guidance; all materials are donated by Social Studies School Service and other publishers. This annual Bargain Bonanza includes suitable materials for secondary and elementary students. The Sale this year will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 9:00 am to 12 noon. In addition to live music and food trucks, informational sessions and brochures will feature a variety of local resources that are available and mostly free to classroom social studies teachers at all levels. Representatives will be there from the Constitutional Rights Foundation, one of the local Holocaust centers, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, teacher outreach programs at UCLA and USC, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and some of the local ethnic museums in the Los Angeles area.
The location of this event will be the parking lot at Social Studies School Service in Culver City at 10200 Jefferson Blvd (90232). This annual fund raiser is co-sponsored by the Southern California Social Science Association (SCSSA). For the first time, a raffle will be held for free memberships in the local, state, and national social science associations for those who attend.
Materials offered for sale include books (some classroom sets), simulation games, charts, reproducibles, posters, audiovisual kits, DVDs, videocassettes, and computer software. Most of the items have never been used; some are showroom and preview samples; some not current editions; and others are slightly damaged. All materials, however, will be sold at a fraction of their retail price.
Proceeds go to benefit the Perryman Fund for the Social Studies, named for Don Perryman, a Social Studies supervisor with the Los Angeles City Schools whose untimely death in 1974 was a great loss to the Social Studies community in all of California. The Perryman Fund conducts a mini-grant program which makes funds available to support classroom curriculum in schools in Los Angeles County, it is a major sponsorer of History Day L.A., and it works to promote Social Studies education in California in a variety of other ways. The Perryman Fund is a California Non-Profit, Public Benefit Corporation.

Wow, Xin, that sounds great! I'm going to forward this info to my department as well as English, science, and our guidance counselors. I'm hoping we can get a carpool together to check this out! Keep the info coming-- love it!!! L.A. is so close to us here in Vta. Co; we really need to check out the resources offered by our neighbor to the south.
