LACMA's Upcoming Exhibitions: Art of Korean Writing, Material Art from China, and Every Living Thing: Animals in Japanese Art

Check out LACMA’s upcoming exhibitions!

Beyond Line: The Art of Korean Writing (June 16 – September 29, 2019, Resnick Pavilion)

Beyond Line will feature writing and calligraphy in Korea in both hanja and hanguel. We’ll be able to view the development of the Korean writing system along with examining works by “kings and queens, officials and scholars, painters and monks, and even slaves.” Korea’s process from woodblock printing and moveable metal type will also be featured in this exhibit.  For anyone interested in the history of the Korean language, writing and calligraphy must view this limited time exhibit.

The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China (June 2, 2019 – January 5, 2020, BCAM, Level 2)

The Allure of Matter will feature four decades of work by Chinese artists and the materials used by them. Don’t miss this traveling exhibit!  The next two stops will be in Chicago and Massachusetts!

Every Living Thing: Animals in Japanese Art (September 22 – December 8, 2019, Resnick Pavilion)

Every Living Thing will feature how animals are depicted in Japanese art from the 6th century to present. The themes include Zodiac Animals, Animals form Nature, Myth and Folklore, and more.  Some of the art will be on loan from private collections, but the majority of the art depicted will be from the museum’s permanent collection.
