I had the same difficulty, posting my lesson plan, so I e-mailed to Catherine to see if she could post my China unit lesson on the forum.
The typography of the black panther as a back drop to Mao's portrait, signals simultaneous change-revolution-political and cultural. I like the images you selected to depict change in 2 opposite parts of the world. US for racial equality and China a cultural revolution permeated with indoctrination as well as buy in from the Chinese people. The poster shows the people's energy looking forward to better future. However, the individuals’ positions in close proximity suggest a collective consciousness for the better of the people and not the individual. Also, the figures' visual composition communicates the dynamics of moving forward and not looking back. In addition, the red images are in stark contrast with the cream colored background and lend the poster a visual pause, while inviting the viewer to linger and gaze inwards. The political poster conveys the jarring energy and sense of urgency to bring about change, while racing against time.
China Lesson Plans

Subject: Reading comprehension
Materials Needed:

Procedure:
Students will be given a book titled Tikki Tikki Tembo written by Arlene Mosel/ Illustrated by Blair Lent
As a class we will read and discuss the story using sequence words.
I will explain that it is important to understand the sequence (or the order that things happen) in a story so that we can understand the story better. I will explain to students that authors often use sequence words to help us understand the sequence of events in a story. I will put four students in a line and model using sequence words by explaining which student is first, second, third, and last. I will chart these sequence words. I will tell students that there are other sequence words that can help determine sequence as well. I will add these to the chart (next, after, finally, then). I will explain that sequence words in stories help the reader understand when things are happening in the text. I will read aloud the short passage from Tikki Tikki Tembo model identifying the sequence words that tell me what happened after including the main events in the story.
Teacher will record students’ answers and will highlight key words, in the passage.
Students will give answer and record their own answers in a graphic organizer provided by the teacher. As a final project students will write the main idea and details in a one paragraph page with an illustration to go with their paragraph.
I really enjoyed the detailed lesson that you constructed on the Cultural Revolution and the Red Guards. This was a very hectic time period in China and students will appreciate this lesson. I recently read, The Red Scarf Girl and learned many interesting but sad facts about this time in China. Let us know how it goes.
I had much better luck posting to this site using Google Chrome rather than Firefox. I certainly had many frustrating moments trying to create new topics in Firefox.
