Grave of the Fireflies

Grave of the Fireflies was a devastating film. From the maltreatment of Seita and Setsuko to their deaths. This film looked at the horror in Japan during World War II. I cried throughout most of the movie and even after it ended. I don’t think it would be entirely appropriate to show this film in my 5th grade class as it is quite disturbing and upsetting. I do think that I could show clips to illustrate what the war looked like and how it affected the Japanese people. This film also shows the very popular film style of anime which could also be used to engage students through new art forms.
