Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

I really enjoy watching foreign films. One of my all time favorite films is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. This film was directed by well-known Taiwanese director Ang Lee and won the Academy Award in 2001 for best foreign film, among others, as well as numerous nominations. The cinematography was magnificent. China's backdrop was perfect for all the spectacular scenes. This movie was set in Qing China. It's an unconventional love story. This movie explores themes of arranged marriages, love, the ying and the yang, trust, betrayal, meditation and education, rivalry, and friendship. These are all themes that can be further explored by students in the classroom. The flying fights, and rooftop and tree hopping fight scenes are what make the film exciting and thrilling. Loved them! Ironically this film was considered a flop in East Asia. I guess martial arts films have better audiences outside from where they're made. I do recall Brian Hu mentioning that. Regardless, Martial Arts films are cool.
