Film Review: 24 Hours After Hiroshima

This Documentary film details the events of August of 1945, both from the US and Japanese perspective. The documentary uses images from the past and primary source accounts of Japanese survivors and Americans involved in the dropping of the atomic bombs. It is an interesting look at the reasoning and justification on the American side, while also addressing the horrific impact on Japan. Some of the American perspectives even come from the men who were involved themselves in piloting the planes that dropped the bombs. There is also a question as to whether or not a second bomb should have been dropped. It is mentioned that the US really was ignorant to the real effects of radiation at the time and the research done prior to the bombing was mostly conducted on animals not people.
The film focuses much of the attention on the impact and destruction caused in Japan as a result of the bomb. There is also a focus on some of the first hand accounts of the Japanese people recounting the events following the first bombing. One impactful account is from a woman who was affected by radiation and studied by doctors. The film details her thoughts and emotions about essentially being a guinea pig being studied.
Unfortunately, the film is very much focused on a US perspective, but may be a good comparison to a document or video detailing the destruction of the bombs from a Japanese perspective. I would most likely use this to address point of view.
