Hanshan/ 喊山 is a movie about love story arise gradually between a man and a window in an old village setting.
There are three major reasons why I liked this movie. First, I like one of the protagonists -Hong xia who was setting to mute. It attracts me all the way to interpret all her facial expressions and body language in this movie. Second, I like the love building up between the two protagonists is simple and pure, even the whole movie. Third, the setting, plot, dressing, language, and acting are very authentic to real life.
Teachers can use this movie to let students guess what Hong xia was trying to express from body language. Hongxia was not able to speak, because of human traffic. Teachers can also address this topic because is happening still in the world.
pushing hands/推手
Pushing hands, directed by Ang Lee, is a movie about culture conflicts between a Chinese father-in-law and an American daughter-in-law. I watched this movie long time before I came to America. Today, I still like it and I think this movie is a wonderful material to address the culture conflicts between China and America to culture related classes.
