Reading for Session 8

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article :things about America and Americans”, this article states how Americans sure so money hungry they do just about anything to get more of it ,and that is such a a true statement. The more money Americans make the more they want more of it. And in this hurry they invent whatever contraptions they can so as to make more money. But these contraptions are usually of convenience for lots of people. For instance the article states that they have invented machines to dispense food items. Or a stamp vending machine, where one put in the money and out comes the product.
The article goes on to state that when friends get together to socialize, it is often because there is a commercial motive. Or like when I read the part of how in China when one meets a new person they are asked their name, age, occupation and native palace. In England they are asked who their father is to see if they are related to an autocrat. However, Americans ask, how much do you have, what do you own? As I read this it made me laugh because it is so true.
The article goes on to state several other truths about Americans, it implying that Americans are spoiled because of the luxuries they have in their homes, such as a piano, or central heating so that when it is cold outside, it is nice and comfy in their home/s.
Also the article mentions that highly educated people have fewer babies. I don’t know I this is a truth because there are people that just do not want to be parents, so I do not agree with this viewpoint. Although many higher leveled educated people do have a tendency to have fewer children, but to me it is because they want to have fun and enjoy their money with travels, shopping, and dining out. They want to enjoy their money they worked so hard to gain, and having lots of babies will impede such fun.
How I would integrate this reading into my classroom is to tell the students to believe in themselves. That all their dreams and hopes can be achieved if they work hard at what they do, to get what they want.
