The geography part of my lesson must include Longitude and Latitude when my Students are learning about a country. It is very important to note the location of the country, especially so one can know it's exact location in the world. Knowing the Longitude and the Latitude is very important. So if I am to discuss a country knowing exactly where that country is can be very important. In knowing the difference between North, South, East, and West has a lot to do with Longitude and Latitude.
One may be at 30 Degrees, but 30 Degrees where? Is that location East, West, North or South. Knowing the Longitude and Latitude of a country can be very important if one needs to find that country on a map.[Edit by="sshorter on Jan 12, 2:21:49 AM"][/Edit]

Longitude and Lattitude
Our class is currently learning about mapping and we will go over the importance of direction. Any lessons on longitude or latitude is important in teaching practical skills to students as the learn to navigate their way around places. Knowing your place in the world is becoming increasingly important as we become a more global citizen. I would not like to see any of my students falling prey into situations like the Miss Teen USA's latest debacle.
You could also get maps and give random lats/longitudes and have the students figure out where these places are as a trip itinerary. Have them start with the Lat/Long of LA and travel to random places on the map using just lats/longs. Just an idea.
It might help to have some links to websites that provide longetude and latitude for any given location around the world right? Well here ya go!
The first a US government website. Its a tad slow but quite impressive actually. The second is a horoscope website that provides you with lat and lon as well but is focused on your birth date as well. The link takes you to a login screen. Just look at the bottom option and click to make a temporary account. Those researching Chinese Zodiac symbolism and Chinese Astrology as a potential lesson will find these sites invaluable to explain the 4 pillars.
