Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

This movie received four Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Picture, and two Golden Globe awards for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director. When the treasured Green Destiny sword is stolen, two master warriors Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh face their greatest challenge. Zhang Ziyi is preparing for an arranged marriage that she does not welcome because she is in love with someone else. In fact this is a love story about two potential couples that simply can not be together. The ending left me speechless. What a Great Movie! This movie is set under the Qing Dynasty.

I have also seen Crouching Tiger-Hidden Dragon. I went to see it in the theater when it came out years ago. I love the cinematography of this film. China is a beautiful country. The fight scenes are incredibly well done and I love the flying aspect of the fighting. I found it interesting that the special fighting moves were kept secret and almost sacred. The end was very tragic, but I felt it was true to the storyline of the film. I am also fascinated with arranged marriages. This movie really explored the realities of an arranged marriage and how love cannot be forced. This is one of my favorite Chinese movies! I would watch it again!!

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon takes place in Qing China. The film does get very interesting when the ancient sword is stolen which causes Li to go in pursuit of the sword and avenge the damage caused by the thief who took it. I love films with love stories, and the twist of arrange marriage and true love makes it great! I was also fascinated with the female warrior! The fight scenes are very thrilling with the floating through the air, walking in water, fighting in trees and roofs. There is no lag moment on the film and every scene was cleverly put together. I must admit that the shaved forehead and braid of the main character made me think of the chinese submission to the manchurian. I was glad to be able to make that connection with the film~

I also loved this film. I found a lesson plan that uses the film to teach the relationships of Confucianism at http://meredithteaches.blogspot.com/2009/04/confucius-crouching-tiger.html
