I wanted to add another museum that I went to a few ago with my Teaching American History cohort. The Mamie Clayton Library and Museum in Culver City has wonderful primary resources that Mamie Clayton, a former librarian collected from the African-American community in Los Angeles. It is located at an old courthouse, where they have kept part of it intact, to use for field trips. For example, the jail cell is being used to discuss the civil rights movement. We packed into the cell, and sang protest songs. It was very cool. I plan on taking my students there next semester. For more information, check out the following website: http://www.claytonmuseum.org. The address is 4130 Overland Blvd. Culver City, Ca 90230.

Also, in the November 11th, 2012, issue of the L A Times, there is an article about a Cold War Museum, also located in Culver City. The article discusses the need to move to a larger facility. The Wende Musuem is located at 5741 Buckingham and the website is www.wendemuseum.org. The article refers to it as one of LA's best kept secrets.

Thank you for listing this information. LACMA our county of Los Angeles museum offers a great program ;Tuesdays Evening for Educators and the Getty Village in Malibu by appointment only offers a series of outdoor plays. The Arboretum and many local gardens are nice destinations and ideal places to take pictures of local flora and fauna.

Thank you for the list. I plan on visiting one of the museums listed for my make-up assignment. I'd also like to share another excellent museum opportunity: Mayme Clayton Library and Museum, 4130 Overland Avenue, Culver City, 90230. The museum has a wealth of historical African-American artifacts and information. It's well worth your time.

I would like to add the Japanese Garden experience. What an amazing place, of course is also free and it's on the Campus of Cal State Long Beach. I stayed longer than I had intended because of the peace and serenity you can experiemnt at a place like this.
