May/June, 2007: Chinatrade

The founding of the USC U.S.-China Institute and the large number of USC students from China, Taiwan, and Hong were mentioned in an article on expanding Los Angeles - China ties. The article also quoted Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation President William Allen on efforts to expand port capacity while reducing pollution. Allen is a USC Cinematic Arts alum and serves on the USC Rossier Board of Councilors.

History professor Joshua Goldstein was interviewed on recycling in Beijing. The interview covered the number of people (perhaps 350,000) who are part of Beijing's recycling industry, the key role played by migrants in the trade, the decline in violence near scrap yards, and increasing efforts to address the needs of those working in the industry.

June 28, 2007: Xinhua News Agency (China)

A widely carried story featured the Hong Kong 2007 photo exhibition sponsored by the USC US-China Institute and the East Asian Library at the USC Doheny Memorial Library. USC Provost C.L. Max Nikias, USC Vice Provost for Globalization Adam Clayton Powell and Chinese Consul General Zhang Yun were among those who attended the exhibition¹s opening ceremony, the story reported. The exhibit commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. China News Service (China) and Sing Tao also covered the story. Clayton Dube, associate director of the US-China Institute, was interviewed on Los Angeles station KSCI-TV in its coverage of the ceremony.
