Screening: Flames of Bodhichitta

Tibet House US presents a screening of Lhaksam's documentary, "Flames of Bodhichitta". "Flames of Bodhichitta" is a Tibetan documentary trying to express the pain of 6 million tibetans in a holistic way. It is based on spirituality with special focus on His Holiness the Dalai Lama's vision. A Q&A will follow the screening.

About the Director:
Dorjee Tsering is better known by the name Lhaksam. Lhaksam was born into a refugee family in Darjeeling, India.  His parents were born and raised in Amdo, Tibet.  When they were just 15 and 16 years old, they watched helplessly as Communist Chinese soldiers shot and killed their parents.  Like many Tibetans, Lhaksam's parents were devoted to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, when he escaped to India they decided to escape as well.  They settled in Darjeeling but never gave up the hope that they would one day return to Tibet.

Lhaksam served 12 years in the Tibetan Special Frontier Force, a special division of the Indian Army. During that time he also served as a sports teacher at the Central School for Tibetan Herbertpur (DehraDun).  Lhaksam is also a self taught musician, he has produced and recorded three albums.

He came to the United States in 2002 and after working several odd jobs, was able to save enough money to attend the New York Film Academy.  From that point on, Lhaksam dedicated his life to social activism, using film, photography and social media to educate the world about Tibet's struggle.  In 2008, he made the documentary, "NEVER GIVE UP" which was smuggled into Tibet, letting Tibetans there know those living in exile had not forgotten about them.  Lhaksam has produced other short documentaries and films.  His coverage of news events has appeared on NBC, Reuters and Voice of America.

Both of Lhaksam's parents died while living in exile.  Their dream of returning to Tibet is now left with him.  His first step is to make sure as many people as possible know what is happening inside his Fatherland.

In this world, most of us are hoping to bring peace into our lives. At this moment millions inside Tibet are hoping they won’t be imprisoned, tortured or killed!
