Jonathan C. Gold, Assistant Professor of Religion, Princeton University

Jonathan C. Gold
joined the Princeton faculty in 2008. His research focuses on Indian and Tibetan Buddhist intellectual traditions, especially theories of language, translation and learning. He is the author of The Dharma's Gatekeepers: Sakya Pandita on Buddhist Scholarship in Tibet (2007), which explains the nature of language and the role of the scholar from the unique perspective of a great thirteenth-century Tibetan philosopher. His current research interests include a study of early Yogacara Buddhist philosophy in India and a history of the doctrine of nonviolence. He is currently on leave the 2012-2013 academic year.
