Six New York-based artists– James Walton Fox, Valley Fox, Shigeru Oyatani, Elizabeth Peters, Wesley Simon and Jayoung Yoon–render contemporary takes on Buddhist traditions and teachings through painting, drawing, sculpture, video and performance art. Each young artist reflects his or her practice and path to enlightenment through various media, which come together, reflecting confluence, compromise or conflict in the pursuit of truth. In the process, they initiate a dialogue on fundamental questions: How is the transcendental reflected in contemporary visual culture? How might art serve as a conduit for clarity? How might art and awareness converge as a foundation in contemporary psychology and cognitive science?

These artists featured are affiliates of the Nyingma Meditation Center and Monastery Palden Padma Samye Ling in Sidney Center, New York. Inspired directly by the wisdom and compassion of teachers Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche, these dynamic young artists have lived or worked at the Center. Practitioners of the Dharma, these individuals seek to express the knowledge bestowed in unique, personal ways through this exhibition at Tibet House US.
