Xiao's peasant mother sacrifices everything to support her through college, yet all Xiao wants is a "fancy Mama." She splits her time between experimenting on mice in a lab and listening to the audiotapes of classic American movies. She eventually travels to the "Land of the Free" to pursue her Chinese-American dream, and finds her Chinese friend, a nuclear physicist, waiting tables. Can she find true happiness in "America the Beautiful"?

"Ze Ren" is a contemporary story of a Chinese immigrant searching for a life of gold in this "Old Gold Mountain" (the Chinese name for San Francisco). Unexpectedly, she discovers the ultimate meaning of "Ze Ren" as she crosses the bridge from East to West.

Bonus Opening Act: An all-new story from Sarah J. Lau, winner of "Best of Fringe" at 2011 San Francisco Fringe Festival for her debut solo show "The Secret Adventures of Fat Woman & Remedial Girl." http://RemedialGirl.com

"She has a wonderful sense of humor and often places it to punctuate scene endings so that just when you're about to dissolve into tears, you're laughing and completely charmed." ---- Laurie Guerin Carnal
