Gary King is the Albert J. Weatherhead III University Professor at Harvard University, and he is based in the Department of Government. He also serves as director of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science. Professor King and his research group develop and apply empirical methods in many areas of social science research, focusing on innovations that span the range from statistical theory to practical application. Professor King received a BA from SUNY, New Paltz and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His most recent publications are The Future of Political Science: 100 Perspectives, coedited with Kay Schlozman and Norman Nie (2009); and Demographic Forecasting, coauthored with Federico Girosi (2008).

The lecture was prepared by Professor King and teaching fellows Jennifer Jie Pan and Molly Roberts.
