East-West, Visually Speaking

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents an exhibition that features thirteen contemporary Chinese artists who merge Eastern and Western visual languages.

When:
October 1, 2011 12:00am to January 15, 2012 12:00am
Print

Organized by The Hilliard University Art Museum, Lafayette, Louisiana, the exhibition presents the work of 13 contemporary Chinese artists who merge Eastern and Western visual languages. While in some works the reference to Western culture seems adoring especially to the visual culture lexicon, in other works it appears to parody the West, its cultural symbols and values. Each participating artist presents a multifaceted view of contemporary China as it struggles to define itself in the post-cultural revolution and its new place on the world stage. The exhibition is sponsored in part by China Visual Arts, Ltd.
