“Drink to Me Only with the Moon and my Shadow”: Li Bai as a Romantic and Daoist Poet

Dominic Cheung (張振翱), Professor and Chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Culture at USC, will speak about poet Li Bai at the Huntington Gardens.

When:
April 21, 2011 7:30pm to 12:00am

In this lecture, Prof. Cheung will introduce the life of the Chinese poet Li Bai 李白 (701-762) who was known for his drinking songs in rapture with wine. "Drunk" is a misnomer for the poet’s condition because in Chinese, the word means being mentally carried away from one's normal preoccupations rather than intoxication or inebriation.
