The USC U.S.-China Institute presents a demonstration by Haji Noor Deen, an internationally acclaimed master calligrapher, on how he uniquely fuses Arabic and Chinese script into the SIni style of Islamic Calligraphy.

Where
Haji Noor Deen Mi Guang Jiang is an internationally acclaimed Master calligrapher who creates graceful works of art that are stunning and inspirational. Haji Noor is the first Chinese Muslim to be conferred Certification of Arabic Calligraphy in Egypt and Certification by Master Calligrapher Hasan Çelebi in Turkey.
His work has been collected and displayed in galleries and museums around the world, such as the British Museum, San Francisco Asian Museum, National Museum of Scotland and Harvard University Art Museum. Haji Noor Deen has lectured and led workshops in some of the most renowned and prestigious institutions, namely Harvard University, Cambridge University, University of California Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Bukhari Institute. In 2005, his work titled “The Ninety Nine Names of God” was acquired and displayed by The British Museum and will be displayed permanently in the gallery of Islamic Art. It is the first piece of Arabic calligraphy handwritten by a Chinese Muslim artist on permanent exhibit at the British Museum in London.
