Disorder
Huang Weikai's film Disorder will be screened at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
Where
In making Disorder, director Huang Weikai collected footage from a dozen amateur videographers and weaved them into a unique city symphony of social dysfunction. Huang Weikai remarked that "The faster Chinese urbanization advances, the stranger peoples’ behaviors and moral standards become". Nothing could be more evident in this film; pigs run wild on a highway while dignitaries swim in a polluted river, one man dances in the middle of traffic while another tries to jump from a bridge before dozens of onlookers.
Disorder won the 2009 Young Jury Special mention Award of Cinma du Rel in France, the 2009 Jury Special mention Award of Yunnan Multi Culture Visual Festival in China, and was an Official selection at the 11th Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival as well as at the 52nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. Hua Hsu of Variety magazine called it "one of the most mesmerizing films I've seen in ages".
