Wu Jianmin and Shi Yanhua, Ambassadors of China, will speak at UCLA.

For over 40 years Wu Jianmin and his wife, Shi Yanhua, have worked in the field of international diplomacy and been part of China's extraordinary development into a global powerhouse.

Ambassadors Wu and Shi began their careers as interpreters for China's top leaders, including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Deng Xiaoping. In 1971 they were appointed members of China's first Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Wu Jianmin rose to become China's ambassador to France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and is the former president of China's Foreign Affairs University. Shi Yanhua is the former ambassador to Luxemburg, and served as the Political Counselor to the European Union. She currently holds a position in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Translators Association of China.
