Trojan Promotes Study of U.S. Culture in China

Brie Loskota, managing director of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences' Center for Religion and Civic Culture, traveled to China on Sept. 20-29 as part of the U.S.-China Education Trust's American Studies Network program.

Along with Julia Chang Bloch, ambassador of the U.S.-China Education Trust, and University of Maryland professor Sonya Michel, Loskota visited Beijing, Changchun and Shanghai to promote the study of American culture, society, and religion in China.

During the trip, Loskota presented papers at the eighth annual America Studies Network Conference on "U.S. Soft Power and Social Equity." She also spoke at a forum hosted by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences' Center of Jewish Studies Shanghai about the experiences of Jews in China and the United States.

"The trip was an excellent opportunity to share the center's model of interdisciplinary scholarship on American culture and religion with our colleagues in China." Loskota said.

Loskota also participated in a roundtable discussion as part of the American Studies Facility Training program organized by the School of English and International Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
