Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

A large and diverse audience attended “The United States, China and Taiwan” held on October 29, 2015 in Shanghai. Below are some images from the session, which included presentations by Wu Xinbo, Shao Yuqun, Ronnie Chan, Tom Hollihan, and Dan Lynch. Click on the links below to see their individual presentations. Speakers:
Ronnie C. Chan 陈启宗 is a global business and civic leader. He is chair of property developer Hang Lung Properties and co-founder of the private equity/venture capital firm Morningside Group. Mr. Chan co-chairs the Asia Society and is a USC trustee. He is affiliated with a number of think tanks, including the Peterson Institute of International Economics where he is a board member. Wu Xinbo 吴心伯 directs Fudan University's Center for American Studies 复旦大学美国研究中心主任 and is Executive Dean of the Institute of International Studies. He’s the editor and author of numerous books and articles, including Strategic Report on Sino-U.S. Relations in 2014 and “The ‘New Normal’ of Sino-U.S. Relations.” Click here to watch the presentation.
Daniel Lynch 林丹 is a professor at the USC School of International Relations 国际关系学院教授. His new book is China’s Futures: PRC Elites Debate Economics, Politics, and Foreign Policy. His previous books examined what China’s rise might mean for democracy in Asia and the role of the media in reform-era China. Click here to watch the presentation.
Shao Yuqun 邵育群 heads the Center for American Studies 美洲研究中心执行主任 at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies 上海国际问题研究院. She’s published widely, including recent articles on cybersecurity, Chinese and American efforts in Central Asia, and cross-strait relations. Click here to watch the presentation.
Tom Hollihan is a professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism 安纳伯格传播与新闻学院教授. The author of several books, Hollihan recently edited and contributed to an important collection of essays on how media and textbook narratives in the United States, China, and Japan on the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands shape opinion and challenge the global order.
