Recent Asian Art Acquisitions
The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria will host an exhibition to present its recent Asian art acquisitions. The exhibition will be curated by Barry Till, and will be held in the Founders Gallery.
Where
Patronage of the arts is a very noble act. Throughout its history, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria has received a remarkable number of Asian art donations, which in terms of numbers is now approximately 43-44% of the entire collection. Every few years, the AGGV shows its recent Asian art acquisitions. We are indeed fortunate in having great and dedicated patrons in Victoria, across the country and from the US. This exhibition is in their honour. All these donations of artifacts as well as funds to purchase works of art over the years have made the Asian art collection of the AGGV the second most comprehensive East Asian collection in Canada (second only to the Royal Ontario Museum). The Asian art gifts that we have acquired represent a wide range of cultures, media and time periods.
