Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

Jonathan D. Pollack is Professor of Asian and Pacific Studies and Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Studies Group at the U.S. Naval War College. His major research interests include: Chinese national security strategy; U.S-China relations; East Asian international politics; Chinese policy making; U.S. foreign policy and defense strategy; Korean politics and foreign policy; and East Asian technological and military development.
Dr. Pollack is presently completing a major project on crucial strategy and policy issues facing the United States in East Asia, drawing on the results of three international conferences funded under a multi-year grant. He edited and contributed to Strategic Surprise? U.S.-China Relations in the Early 21st Century (2004), Korea-The East Asian Pivot (2006), and Asia Eyes America: Regional Responses to U.S. Defense and Foreign Policy (2007). He is the author of numerous reports, research monographs, and journal articles. Among his single-authored studies is Chinese Military Power and American Security Interests (2000).
