Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

Michigan State hosts a talk about the democratization of TV news after the "cold war" between China and Taiwan.

This presentation will briefly introduce the democratization of TV news system after the "cold war" between China and Taiwan. Several issues will also be presented: What does TV news look like in Taiwan, and how do competition among media corporations in Taiwan and Hong Kong contribute to the tabloid phenomenon? And, finally, how is the public TV service struggles in the tabloid wave? An award-winning documentary "Hermit Crabs in Plastic House" will be screened at the end of the presentation. There will be time for any curiosity and questions about the newsroom and news system in Taiwan.
