Xinli: Contemporary Literature in China
The program brings together some of the world's leading experts to discuss the future of democracy in Northeast Asia.
Xinli was born in 1963 in Beijing . Her works are diversified in style, ranging from outlandish themes to family legends, from realism to fable. In recent years, she has attracted attention particularly with her irony-laced short stories. From her unique perspective Xinli brings to light scenes of contemporary Chinese life, and reveals the widespread confusion and anxiety of soul as well as the hunger for values in this rapidly changing world. The works have a strong fable-like nature and a high degree of irony, which is extremely rare in present Chinese literary circles. Her works include Stories of the Soul, Record of Loss, and The Buddha of Monk Mikong, among others.
