Dr. Ross will focus on the discontent among foreign businesses concerning China a decade after its World Trade Organization accession. What are the commercial and legal bases for such discontent and is it warranted? If so, to what extent is it a product of deliberate industrial policy? What are the consequences of such discontent?

Lester Ross is managing partner of the Beijing office of the law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (WilmerHale). He has a JD from Harvard Law School and a PhD from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ross has a broad practice including mergers and acquisitions, competition, foreign direct investment, financial services, intellectual property, and environmental and energy law. He has particular experience advising multinational corporations with respect to the establishment and growth of their businesses in China and the outsourcing of manufacturing and research functions. He advises Chinese institutions with respect to their overseas expansion. He has published widely in these fields and has lived in Beijing since 1997.
