This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Woetzel
Dr. Jonathan Woetzel has been based in Shanghai for twenty years and headed McKinsey’s Global Institute. He works with Chinese businesses to develop strategies, organizations, and operations for global growth, and with city, regional, and national authorities on energy, sustainability, and economic development. He has advised China’s State Economic Commission and has conducted more than sixty projects for local Chinese governments. He earned his doctorate at USC and he teaches at the Peking University Guanghua School of Management, the China-Europe International Business School, and the Shanghai Jiaotong University Antai School of Business. In addition to writing numerous McKinsey studies, especially on urbanization, Woetzel is the author of many books, including No Ordinary Disruption: The Four Global Forces Breaking All the Trends (with Richard Dobbs and James Manyika, 2015), The One Hour China Consumer Book: Five Short Stories That Explain the Brutal Fight for One Billion Consumers (with Jeffrey Towson, 2015), The One Hour China Book: Two Peking University Professors Explain All of China Business in Six Short Stories (with Jeffrey Towson, 2014), Operation China: From Strategy to Execution (with Jimmy Hexter, 2007), Capitalist China: Strategies for a Revolutionized Economy (2003), and China's Economic Opening to the Outside World: The Politics of Empowerment (1989).
