“Govinda is an explorer – almost a scientist – looking into the world of energies and not of things… His very tangible, textured, exquisite and astonishing canvases are windows into primordial worlds and the mystery of how nothing becomes something.” – Anthony Blake (Author/Physicist and Philosopher, UK)

“Viewing the art of Govinda reminds us that we are ultimately free – as free as the clouds that reinvent themselves endlessly in the wind, the sun and the sky.” - Dr. Jacqueline Taylor Basker, Ph.D.Oxford

Tibet House US has announced their upcoming art exhibit, The Universe Within, which will showcase the masterful works of renowned Nepalese artist Govinda Sah ‘Azad’.  The exhibit will run from May 23, 2013 through July 24, 2013, with an opening reception to be held on May 23rd from 6-8pm ET. A portion of all sales will benefit Tibet House US and its ongoing work to preserve and present Tibetan culture.

Govinda Sah ‘Azad’ is a celebrated, young Nepalese artist who studied in Nepal, Bangladesh, as well as London, where he is now based. The Universe Within, his first solo exhibition in the US, is an impressive display of his blossoming personal style – an introspective of the human life and soul through the study and display of creative cosmic, nebulous, and celestial occurrences. His paintings sometimes include vivid colors, but the paramount focus is the sharp and breathtaking contrast he creates between darkness and light. Govinda’s work encapsulates the Buddhist philosophy of inversion, an analysis of the macrocosm of the beyond in attempt to provide an awareness of inner humanity. Through his awe-inspiring depictions of the birth of stars and interactions between clouds, Govinda urges human understanding and recognition of a cosmic energy within.

In 2010, Govinda’s art was presented at the 7th conference on The Inspiration of Astronomical Phenomena (INSAP VII) in the UK. INSAP conferences are a series of international meetings held to observe and explore the effects of the stars and sky on art, literature, myth, and other forms of cultural history. This year he will be presented at the 8th conference taking place at the American Museum of Natural History on July 7-12, 2013.
