The UCLA Summer Intensive for Bilingual Teachers (SIBT) is an approved California Commission on Teacher Credentialing program that gives K-12 educators the opportunity to earn a Bilingual Authorization in Mandarin or Spanish. Led by faculty from UCLA's Center X in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies and experts in K-12 language teacher training, this 8-day intensive institute will enable interested in-service teachers complete the needed coursework over the summer vacation period.
SIBT is a blended educational experience that combines face-to-face classroom instruction and hands-on learning, with self-guided study and project work.
Open to educators from across the US who possess strong English language skills and expertise in either Spanish or Mandarin. The UCLA Summer Institute for Bilingual Teachers program combines academic coursework, with classroom observation and a teaching practicum with local students.
