Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
The Search for Major McMurrey
The Wilson Center presents "The Search for Major McMurrey", a documentary on American aviators who fought for China during WWII. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Zhang Dongpan and the families of the men memorialized in the film.
Where
We are beset by anniversaries: the 35th year of formal U.S.-China relations, 100 years since the launch of WWI, 70 years since the end of WWII. Often overlooked in the commemoration of these milestones is one of the most important periods in U.S.-China relations—the military alliance of 1941to 1945. Please join us on October 15 for the screening of a documentary on American aviators who fought for China, followed by a discussion with director Zhang Dongpan and the families of the men memorialized in the film. The movie is presented as part of a major exhibit, National Memories, that the Wilson Center is mounting in partnership with the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. You can view these photos, curated from American archives, on Woodrow Wilson Plaza and on the 4th and 5th floors of the Wilson Center through October 21.
