Rediscovery of Fang Rending
The San Francisco Public Library presents Fang Rending's life as told by his granddaughter, Tanya Fang.

Where
Fang Rending (1901-1975) was a pivotal leader in reforming traditional Chinese figure painting in the 1930s. He won an art gold award at the Brussels international Exposition in 1928. In 1939, he was the first Chinese artist to receive a one-man exhibition at The San Francisco Museum of Art (later renamed The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art).
His artworks span half a century, combining the ideals of East and West, modern and ancient.
