Poetry can connect feelings and stories across cultures and generations.  Following the reading, there will be a poetry open mic where audience members are invited to share their own poems.

Dr. Keith Holyoak, a poet and a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, shares Facing the Moon: Poems of Li Bai and Du Fu, a bilingual collection of poems by Li Bai and Du Fu, the most renowned poets in Chinese literature. They transport the reader back to the Tang dynasty, while conveying timeless insights into the human condition that remain as relevant today as they were centuries ago.

Koon Woon, a long-time Seattle Chinatown resident, has two full-length poetry books from Kaya Press, a cutting edge publisher of the Asian Diaspora. Koon's first book, The Truth in Rented Rooms, won the Pen Oakland Award and his recent book, Water Chasing Water, won a 2014 American Book Award.
