Arts College Faculty Ensemble of Xiamen University, PR China

Come learn about and listen to traditional and contemporary music in China! The Arts College Faculty Ensemble of Xiamen University will demonstrate their beautiful, traditional Chinese instruments including the Erhu, a two-stringed fiddle; Hulusi, a free reed wind instrument; Shougu, a hand drum of Xinjiang minorities; Xiao, a vertical bamboo flute; Xun, a Chinese vessel flute made of clay; Yangqin, a hammered dulcimer, and Zheng, a Chinese zither.

The Xiamen University Arts College Faculty Ensemble will also be performing at Scripps College on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Garrison Theater. Dr. Min Wang, Professor of Ethnomusicology at Xiamen University, will present a lecture entitled: “NAN YIN MUSIC: A LIVING FOSSIL OF ANCIENT CHINESE MUSIC” in Boone Recital Hall, Scripps Performing Arts Center at Tuesday, February 3 at 5:15 p.m.
