Chinese art has fascinated the outside world, especially the Islamic world, for more than a millennium. Only recently has the influence of the art of Islamic nations on China been explored, (A recent example is an exhibition at the National Palace Museum in Taipei of Mughal and Ottoman jades collected by the Qianlong emperor, the richest and most powerful man of the 18th century.) This installation, designed to complement Doris Duke’s Shangri La, highlights Chinese works with ties to the Islamic world.
