Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

The Miller Outdoor Theatre hosts a performance by Shanghai-based Guru Drum Group.
This award winning and top rated drum group from Shanghai presents theatrical drum drama and excitement! A spectacle depicts historical and culturally significant drum compositions, GuGu Drum Group showcases profound insight into unity, human evolution, awareness, wisdom, social commitment and communication through percussive movements.
Director Yang Xiaodong takes a contemorary approach to his authentic ancient drums, representing a powerful lineage of drum movements dating back to the times of the Emperors of Chinese Dynasties. This moving presentation has been featured at many outdoor festivals and arts centers throughout China and features drum vignettes based on timeless Chinese proverbs, fables and fairy tales.
