Established in 2003 by a group of journalists, environmental activists, students and scientific experts, Green Anhui is a grassroots environmental organization in China's Anhui province. Green Anhui promotes environmental protection with a particular focus on the Huai River, through creative environmental activities, public environmental education, and policy advocacy. In 2008, they led the Qiugang villagers to successfully shut down three chemical factories that were polluting village waterways.

Zhou Xiang is a leader in the new generation of environmentalists in China. Influenced by the environmental issues in his hometown in a coal mining region, Zhou Xiang pursued activism during college. He currently serves as the capable and dynamic leader of Green Anhui.

Zhou Xiang will present on Green Anhui and the challenge of working as a civil society organization on water pollution and other environmental issues in China. The talk will include a screening of segments from the Academy Award-nominated film, The Warriors of Qiugang, and opportunities for Q&A.
