Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

The China Hollywood Society is honored to be hosting a screening of the first US-China co-production, Restless, and a Q&A with the film's producer and co-creator, Peter Shiao, on Monday, June 2nd at Raleigh Studios from 7pm (screening starts at 7:30pm).
A post-screening networking mixer will follow at a nearby bar - venue will be announced on the night. This is destined to be a sell-out event so we encourage you to book tickets early. Unfortunately tickets are not refundable.
About the film:
Restless tracks the experiences of two young Americans in Beijing during the summer of 1997. Leah is an aimless global wanderer in search of the next adventure away from a small town existence in America, and Richard is a Chinese American surfer dude who must bring his grandfather's ashes to his ancestral home. They are joined by a colorful group of local and expat friends -- including an enigmatic Chinese chess master and a long lost grandmother -- around the Cultural Revolution themed bar the Bright Future as they navigate the cutting edge of East-West relations.
About the speaker:
Peter Shiao is the founder and CEO of Orb Media Group, a Los Angeles and China based cross border producer, financier and marketer of films, television and new media content for a new Hollywood-China global footprint. He is considered an expert, pioneer and thought leader in the area of Hollywood-China collaborations.
Prior to his start as an entrepreneur, Peter served as policy and political staff in the California State Senate and was responsible for the California Senate Committees on the Pacific Rim, the Entertainment Industry, and Rebuilding Los Angeles.
A sought-after speaker, Peter has spoken at Variety’s Future of Film Summit, Harvard China Forum, The Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment, The Game Summit and the US-China Film Summit. He is frequently quoted in the media on all things Hollywood-China.
Since 2008, he has served as the chairman of the annual US-China Film Summit with the Asia Society, The Motion Picture Association, the Producer’s Guild of America, and the China Film Co-Production Corporation. He also serves as the chair of Entertainment and Media programs (EMASIA) for the Asia Society of Southern California.
He graduated from UCLA with a BA degree in political science with an emphasis on mass communications and was a California Senate Fellow.
