Rian Thum, Assistant Professor of History at Loyola University in New Orleans will speak at UW Madison. Xinjiang is home to one of Inner Asia's largest Muslim populations, the Turkic-speaking Uyghur people. This two-lecture series will focus on aspects of Uyghur everyday life, and offer insights on Uyghur traditions and Islamic diversity. Sponsored by the American Center for Mongolia Studies, the Center for East Asian Studies, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
