China Boys

The Asia Society and St. Thomas University's Center for International Studies present a book talk with Nicholas Platt, author of China Boys, at the Junior League of Houston.

When:
November 18, 2010 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Print

As a young State Department officer, Nicholas Platt accompanied President Richard Nixon on his history-making 1972 trip to China that led to normalization of relations between that country and the United States. Platt's insider's account of the events and personalities of that dramatic week and of the months and years after form the heart of his new memoir, China Boys: How U.S. Relations With the PRC Began and Grew.

After serving in the first US liaison office in Beijing, Platt went on to a long and distinguished diplomatic career that included stints as ambassador to the Philippines and Pakistan. He will discuss his China experiences in an onstage conversation with Dr. Hans Stockton, Director of the Center for International Studies at the University of St. Thomas.

A book sale and signing will follow. Admission is free. This event is held in partnership with St. Thomas University's Center for International Studies.
