We are delighted to invite you to an informal discussion among the five men who served as American ambassadors to China between 1985 and 2001:  Winston Lord (1985-89), James R. Lilley  (1989-91), J. Stapleton Roy (1991-95), James R. Sasser (1996-99), and Joseph W. Prueher (1999-2001).

This is the first time that all five of the former living ambassadors to China have appeared in a program together.   We have asked them to reflect on their time in Beijing:   the challenges, excitement, crises, achievements.  The program will include comments from each ambassador, time for them to react to each other and to answer your questions.   National Committee President Stephen A. Orlins will moderate the off-the-record discussion.

The program, held in honor of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries, will take place Tuesday, December 9 in the Feldman Auditorium of the New York Life Insurance Company headquarters, 51 Madison Avenue (between 26th and 27th Streets).   We will begin with a reception at 5:00; the program will start promptly at 5:30.
