Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

Join award-winning author Daniel Skach-Mills as he reads from his latest book, The Beyond Within:The Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden.
Join award-winning author Daniel Skach-Mills as he reads from his latest book, The Beyond Within:The Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden. Based on his service as a volunteer docent at Lan Su since 2005, The Beyond Within is a Daoist-inspired garden tour that combines Lan Su's five elements with five key Daoist principles.
The program will also feature a display of original illustrations created for the book by Lan Su docent Dan Lucas. Dan's artwork will be on display during the reading and Dan will be available following the reading for an opportunity to meet the artist. The Beyond Within: The Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden is a wonderful artistic collaboration inspired by the beauty of Lan Su.
Copies of The Beyond Within: The Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden by Daniel Skach-Mills are available for purchase in the Garden Shop. Lan Su members receive 10% purchases in the Garden Shop.
