Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

USC Pacific Asia Museum hosts performer and scholar SUN Ping who will present a closer look at Beijing Opera
Visiting celebrated Beijing Opera performer and scholar SUN Ping will present a closer look at Beijing Opera, one of China’s national treasures, and decode this fascinating art form and its dazzling expressions, accompanied with demonstrations in costumes. This program will be in Chinese and English.
Professor Sun is the Executive Director of Center for National Drama Studies, Renmin University of China. She served as director and lead performer in numerous performances in China, Europe and the U.S., and has won many national and international awards, including the United States Presidential Award in 2012.
Free for members; USC faculty, staff, students and alumni with valid ID; and children ages 12 and under.
Included with admission for non-members: adults $10, students & seniors (60+) $7.
