Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
Artful Retreat: Garden Culture of the Qing Dynasty
This symposium is scheduled in conjunction with the special exhibition “The Emperor's Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City,” which Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA has organized in partnership with the Palace Museum, Beijing, and in cooperation with the World Monuments Fund.
Where
This symposium is an international gathering of scholars coming together to explore the artistic, political and cultural significance of Chinese gardens during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). Held in conjunction with PEM’s special exhibition The Emperor’s Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City.
The symposium, Artful Retreat: Garden Culture of the Qing Dynasty, is a collaboration of the Peabody Essex Museum and Harvard University's Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and the Department of History of Art and Architecture.
