Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
2014 Global Exchange Workshop Screening
The public is invited to attend a screening of eight U.S. premieres of documentaries created in Beijing this summer at the Communications University of China.
Where
Since 2006, USC and the Communication University of China have hosted a unique summer program which alternates between Los Angeles and Beijing. Each summer, a handful of USC students pair up with students from CUC to make short (10-20 minute) documentaries on some aspect of life in a global city. These films are screened in both countries and many have been broadcast in both. Many of the films are available at the USC U.S.-China Institute website and the YouTube channel. Support for the program has come from generous donations by Stephen Lesser and from USC Cinematic Arts and USC. In the first years of the program, USCI also provided financial support.
The October 14 screening is the U.S. premier for the films. These films were produced by students working in Beijing this past summer.
