Du Haibin reveals video unavailable through official channels and examines the prominence of media and consumerism in contemporary China; shocking footage shows tourists buying DVDs of the resulting destruction and souvenir albums of fresh corpses.
1428 premiered in the U.S. in the 2010 Documentary Fortnight Festival at MoMA New York, won the Best Documentary Award at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival, and won Los Angeles Film Festival's "Best of the Fest" in 2010. Ronnie Scheib of Variety calls 1428 "fascinating, beautifully crafted".
