The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March

A screening of "The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March"

On March 3, 2009 at 6:30 PM, the Asia Society will host the first public New York City screening of "The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March," a Cinereach film chronicling the start of a national Chinese youth movement for the environment. Initiated in 2007 with support from Future Generations/China, the first march was comprised of 2,000 youths from more than 20 Chinese universities. The students marched nationwide along ten routes, spanning 22 provinces, to raise national environmental awareness and spark a passion for conservation. Told from the students' perspective, the film captures their awakening to the wonders of China's natural environment as well as to the human impact of environmental degradation. In 2009, the Green Long March continues with government endorsement from the Chinese Youth League and a focus on renewable green energy solutions for China. The film will be introduced by noted environmental author Bill McKibben and followed by a discussion between Mr. McKibben, Orville Schell, and Cinereach producer Michael Raisler.
