Jeffrey N. Wasserstrom is a Professor of History at the University of California, Irvine — and the author, most recently, of "China’s Brave New World: And Other Tales for Global Times," which was published by Indiana University Press in May 2007.

A regular contributor to academic journals, he has also written for a variety of general interest periodicals, including Newsweek, The Nation, the TLS, New Left Review, the Far Eastern Economic Review, the Los Angeles Times and the Christian Science Monitor.

One of the series editors of “Asia: Local Studies/Global Themes,” a book series published by the University of California Press and a co-editor of "Human Rights and Revolutions" (Rowman and Littlefield Press, 2000 — second edition 2007), he is currently completing work on a book for Routledge on "Global Shanghai, 1850-2010."
